Frans Spaepen

Frans Spaepen was the first Director of the Rowland Institute at Harvard, 2002 - 2013.  He administered the Rowland Junior Fellowship Program through its infancy to the premiere independent research program that it is today, while maintaining the congenial family-like atmosphere of the Institute. Frans is a materials scientist whose research interests span a wide range of experimental and theoretical topics including amorphous materials, polytetrahedral structure of liquids and quasicrystals, thin films and multilayers, properties of interfaces,  colloidal systems  and the determination of Avogadro's number with an accuracy or better than 10 ppb.
